New Look / Happy 5th for KBG Design
Happy 5th Birthday to us!
PS, I've been in the interior design industry since 2003 - which is wayyyy more than 5 years ago.
Allow me to digress a bit...
As you may have heard or read, I knew at a young age that I wanted to be a designer and I pursued that immediately out of high school and then, of course, college. I've worked on both sides of the desk so-to-speak, and climbed up the ranks at various high-end boutique interior design firms since early 2003. I started my own business - on the side - in 2008 and I was KB Interior Design. And since it was just a side gig, I wore all the hats - including the graphic design for my very first logo. Not bad, right?!
Fast forward to over 5 years ago, I was a newlywed working for a larger well-known design-build company in the South Bay, however, I felt the tug on my heart to pursue my own business full-time. After all, I had lots of experience doing my own projects so I knew I could "do it" and do it well! More importantly, my husband and I were battling infertility for almost two years at that point and I wanted to have the time to focus on my health, reduce some stress (i.e. reduce my 50-60 hour work week), and then, hopefully, get pregnant. I can honestly say I didn't have many other long-term goals besides having a family at that moment, but I knew I was never going to be a stay-at-home-mom either.
With my family and friend's support, KBG Design was born in May, 2015. It was just me and a part-time personal assistant getting things done right from my very own home office. Five months later, we found out I was finally(!) pregnant, praise the Lord! I continued to work literally until I was in labor at the hospital. No joke, my phone was taken away from me because my blood pressure was too high already from contractions + work stress🤪. Side note, pre-eclampsia sucks.
After my daughter Naomi was born, I was beyond thrilled! After all, this long-awaited beautiful little human was finally here and I felt that much more complete because of her, however, as much as I loved being a new mom, I also wanted to get back to my work. And when my baby girl was 7-weeks old, I did just that. I think it was around that time that I felt like I had more reason than ever to tackle the business and the mommy-world simultaneously. After all, bigger and bigger projects were coming my way which then forced some necessary growth which meant it was time to move out of my home office. So, in early 2017, KBG Design moved into a shared interior design studio right in the heart of Almaden - literally minutes from my childhood home. I was both equally excited and terrified to be out of my house , working in a new office space, and to grow my 'lil business!
With more and more wonderful clients and projects coming our way, more business growth was necessary...again. We then renovated and moved into our own very design studio in October/November of 2018 while I was miserably pregnant with my 2nd daughter🤮. (Ps, we are still in the same space and I just love going there!). I admit 2019 was a bit of a blur because of our crazy design-project work load + pregnancy + another baby + a home remodel at my own house, but we managed to finish out some of our best design projects to-date with special thanks to the support of my fabulous design team.
Towards the end of 2019, I wanted to re-brand and re-strategize our operations in effort to set the stage for more scaleable future growth here at KBG Design. First things first, and you've probably already seen this, but I wanted an all-new KBG Design logo! With the help of my business consultant and brand specialist, Christine, we began brainstorming the new brand and image for my company several months back. I wanted something more "me" - the current me - and a look that would reflect the more architectural side of our design business and services while still being curated, approachable, clean, high-end in feel, and still a tad feminine. I think this new logo is just that. 🤩
Since it's now May of 2020, KBG Design is officially 5 years old! Happy birthday to us!! 🥳
Now with over 17 years of experience in this industry (*gasp*), I have more drive than ever to take things to the next level - and beyond. I couldn't be prouder of how far we have come in 5 short years. I'm so very proud of my team's individual growth and positive attitude - especially in light of being in the middle of a pandemic. Regardless, I feel so very blessed and in awe of what hard work can accomplish in such a short period of time and I know that the next 5 years can be even more fruitful. After all, it wouldn't be real growth without some growing pains along the way, right?!
Anyhow, I realize it's not the beginning of the year or anything, but it is the beginning of the next chapter for us at KBG Design. Moving forward (since that's the only real direction to go, right?!), my team and I will continue to create cohesive, practical, functional, and beautiful homes for our client's - since that's what I'm the biggest fan of IRL. Starting next week, we will be slowly resuming work back in our design studio to begin our new normal and to revamp our business dreams for the next 5 years - and beyond - so please stay tuned for more great things to come.
Thanks so much for your support and interest in following us @ KBG Design!
Oh, and stay safe and healthy, too!
xoxo
Katelyn
